Dugout Canopy at Estadio Azteca

Mexico City, Mexico

The new dugout canopy for Latin America’s largest stadium is inspired by the original tessellation on the Telstar and Azteca soccer balls used during the 1970 and 1986 World Cup finals in Mexico. The canopy’s transparent ETFE cushions simultaneously protect players and officials from the elements while providing spectators and television cameras a clear view of the event. ETS produced and installed the air-filled ETFE pillows and structural steel used to create the canopy.
