DALLAS, TX — The Continental Development Corporation (CDC) San Francisco has awarded FabriTec Structures the contract to design-build one tensile membrane gable canopy and one retractable canopy as part of the renovations to their InterContinental San Francisco luxury hotel.
The accordion canopy will have seven retractable sections with a total fabric surface area of approximately 6,530 square feet and will be installed on an existing outdoor deck called the Pacific Terrace located on the Northside of the 4th floor. FabriTec has already been testing the retracting mechanism with its affiliate, PFEIFER Systems, in Germany.
The renovated terrace will also be equipped with state-of-the-art lighting, sound, and acoustics systems to host luxurious parties, weddings, special events, and even Fortune 500 corporate gatherings.
FabriTec will be installing the largest part of the hotel’s planned renovations, but the CDC will also be renovating the guest rooms, meeting rooms, and other public spaces to elevate their property to “an even higher state of modern elegance and luxury”.
Like many of the features at the InterContinental San Francisco, the canopies are part of the hotel’s commitment to the continued enhancement of their facility’s sustainability and eco-friendliness; with the very concept of a tension fabric canopy coming from nature and often mimicking trees and leaves.
FabriTec is proud to work with such a prominent hotel that is the largest LEED Gold Recipient of existing buildings in California and the 3rd largest in the U.S. according to their website.
Other high-profile projects FabriTec has in the works are two large entrance canopies at the ATL Next Central Passenger Terminal Complex, one of which is already complete, and the ETFE roof to go over the LA Stadium & Entertainment District at Hollywood Park.
