FabriTec Structures is ready to install a new PTFE roof onto the Carrier Dome at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. The Carrier Dome is the home of the Syracuse Orange football, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse teams at Syracuse University.
The Carrier Dome hosted its final event under the old inflatable roof on Sunday, March 1st when the Syracuse Orange Women’s Basketball team hosted the Boston College Eagles. The dome is scheduled to be ready for the Syracuse Orange football team’s 2020-2021 home opener against the Colgate University Raiders on September 19, 2020.
The old roof system must be removed before FabriTec can install the new roof. Once the roof has been removed, FabriTec will begin installing the new PTFE-fiberglass roof. The PTFE-fiberglass will be much more efficient than the old inflatable fabric material, allowing for reduced maintenance costs and risks. From the outside, the new design ensures the stadium remains a landmark of the Syracuse skyline, while still trapping the renowned roaring crowd noise inside.
The $118 million renovation project includes the new roof, a new lighting system, new scoreboard, improved disability access, and new restrooms, along with a variety of smaller improvements.
The renovations are due to be completed in August, in time for the 2020-2021 college football season.
