Minnesota United FC debuted their new state-of-the-art stadium, Allianz Field, April 13, 2019. Located in Saint Paul, the 19,400-capacity stadium was designed by Kansas City-based Populous and constructed by Mortensen Construction. The eye-catching exterior of the arena was fabricated and installed by FabriTec Structures using a unique new PTFE material, which allows the building to have a reflective look under sunlight but lit up in color with LED backlights at night.
The team opened the stadium with a 3-3 tie against New York City FC to a sellout crowd of 19,796 excited Minnesotans. Osvaldo Alonso scored the first ever goal at Allianz Field for Minnesota at the 13-minute mark.
Minnesota United was founded in 2015 and played their inaugural season in 2017. Before moving to Allianz Field this April, the team previously played at TCF Bank Stadium, home of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team.
The stadium also hosted a pair of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup matches on June 18, 2019. The CONCACAF Gold Cup is a bi-annual tournament between North American, Central American, and Caribbean men’s national teams. Allianz Field hosted two Group D matches, the first a 2-0 victory for Panama over Trinidad and Tobago and the second a 4-0 United States victory against Guyana.
