Originally, the 2012 main Olympic stadium in London had been designed and constructed as a temporary structure. Post Olympics, It was subsequently renovated as a multi-purpose stadium for both Westham United Football Club and British Athletics. A key element was to strengthen the steel structure to allow it to support the new roof. Pfeifer was the favoured partner to manufacture and install the new stadium roof.
A new tensile roof was required over the stands to cover the 60,000 capacity spectators from England’s inclement weather.
With a span of 80 metres, it is the world’s largest cantilevered roof delivered in this technology.
PFEIFER has delivered 700 tons of steel structure, cables and connections for 40000 sqm new roof area.
