FabriTec Structures, LLC, North America’s leading design/build contractor specializing in tension fabric structures, reports Memphis AP Authority’s contentment with the airport’s new tensile membrane walkway canopy.
The Memphis AP Authority was looking for something dynamic to enhance a new parking garage located in front of the terminal. This resulted in two uses of tensioned fabric. The first is a center “spine” of the garage which features at ground level, a series of moving walkways allowing patrons to reach the terminal quickly from the furthest parking areas. The three moving walkways, which are open to the elements, are covered by a series of masted inverted cone structures that span over the walkway and total a combined plan area coverage of 17,190 square feet. Our scope of work included supply, fabrication, and installation of the specified TEFLON™-coated fiberglass along with the steel structure and cable components.
The second use of fabric included three tall interior structures shaped as inverted pyramids with each measuring 30 square feet at the top and tapering down to a center column. They resemble “martini glasses” and are distinctively clad with approximately 8,000 square feet of Tenara membrane. When lit with different colored lighting, these distinctive structures give an aesthetic playfulness to the space they are in.
