The giraffes at the Buffalo Zoo are now able to seek some shade when roaming in their outside exhibit.
If you’re traveling by the Buffalo Zoo at Parkside Avenue and Amherst Street you should notice a giant umbrella-like structure in the Giraffe exhibit. It’s a brand new, state-of-the-art shade structure designed to protect the giraffes from harsh sunlight. The Zoo’s Marketing Director Todd Giese said the shade was a recommendation.
“With the direction of the sun and a very open giraffe yard that we have, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums felt that we needed some sort of center yard structure for them to provide shade,” said Giese.
