By October 9, 2018Awards, Media

ENR California Best Projects 2018 recognizes FabriTec Structures project at Caltech’s Center for Autonomous Systems and Robotics Laboratory as one of its winners. Three panels of judges reviewed 110 projects, the region’s highest-ever number of entries, and selected 49 projects as winners in 20 categories.

FabriTec designed and built a very specialized tensile membrane structure over the courtyard that functions as a three-story arena for flying drones and a two-story aerospace robotics flight control lab. The tensile membrane canopy structure required exacting design and installation to span the courtyard bound by separate buildings without heightening seismic risk. The contained courtyard is designed to allow researchers to regulate wind conditions while testing drones.
